More to Life than Work – Summer Fun at Big Pit

Sorry, there are no future dates available
This summer at Big Pit National Coal Museum, discover that there’s more to life than work with a fun-filled programme celebrating the hobbies and traditions of Welsh mining communities. As part of the ‘Hiya Butt! Bay’ events, families can enjoy seaside-inspired crafts, messy play, and learn about the historic Miners’ Fortnight—a special time when colliery workers and even their horses took a well-earned break. Kids can get creative by making their own ‘pin the tail on the colliery horse’ game, inspired by the two weeks each year when the horses came up to the surface. It’s a lively and engaging way to explore local history while having some hands-on fun.
